           “Lymanisdoingwell,”answeredMagnus.“Icouldwishhewasmorepronouncedinhisconvictions,lesswillingtocompromise,butIbelievehimtobeearnestandtohaveatalentforgovernmentandcivics.Hisambitiondoeshimcredit,andifheoccupiedhimselfalittlemorewithmeansandalittlelesswithends,hewould,Iamsure,betheidealservantofthepeople.ButIamnotafraid.ThetimewillcomewhentheStatewillbeproudofhim.”

           AsHarranturnedtheteamintothedrivewaythatleduptoAnnixter’shouse,Magnusremarked:

           “Harran,isn’tthatyoungAnnixterhimselfontheporch?”

           Harrannoddedandremarked:

           “Bytheway,Governor,Iwouldn’tseemtoocordialinyourinvitationtoAnnixter.Hewillbegladtocome,Iknow,butifyouseemtowanthimtoomuch,itisjustlikehisconfoundedobstinacytomakeobjections.
