           Keast,besidehimselfwithanger,pusheddowntheaisleunderneathwheretherecalcitrantgrouphaditsplaceand,shakinghisfist,calledupatthem:

           “Youwerepaidtobreakupthismeeting.Ifyouhaveanythingtosay;youwillbeaffordedtheopportunity,butifyoudonotletthegentlemanproceed,thepolicewillbecalledupontoputyouout.”

           Butatthis,themanwhohadraisedthefirstshoutleanedoverthebalconyrail,and,hisfaceflamingwithwrath,shouted:

           “YAH!talktomeofyourpolice.Lookoutwedon’tcallonthemfirsttoarrestyourPresidentforbribery.Youandyourhowlaboutlawandjusticeandcorruption!Here”—heturnedtotheaudience—“readabouthim,readthestoryofhowtheSacramentoconventionwasboughtbyMagnusDerrick,PresidentoftheSanJoaquinLeague.Here’sthefactsprintedandproved.”

           Withthewords,hestoopeddownandfromunderhisseatdraggedforthagreatpackageofextraeditionsofthe“BonnevilleMercury,”notanhouroffthepresses.Otherequallylargebundlesofthepaperappearedinthehandsofthesurroundinggroup.Thestringswerecutandinhandfulsandarmfulsthepaperswereflungoutovertheheadsoftheaudienceunderneath.Theairwasfulloftheflutterofthenewlyprintedsheets.
