“Stopinfordinneronyourwayback,”saidAnnixter.“There’llbeavenisonsteak.Oneoftheboysgotadeeroverinthefoothillslastweek.Outofseason,butnevermindthat.Ican’teatit.Thisstomachofminewouldn’tdigestsweetoilto-day.Gethereaboutsix.”

Presleytookhimselfoff,butatthegateAnnixtercalledafterhim,hismouthfullofprunes,“Say,takealookatthatherdofsheepasyougoup.Theyarerightoffheretotheeastoftheroad,abouthalfamilefromhere.
