           Wewereasgoodasourword,foritwasjustsevenwhenwereachedtheCopperBeeches,havingputupourtrapatawaysidepublic-house. Thegroupoftrees,withtheirdarkleavesshininglikeburnishedmetalinthelightofthesettingsun,weresufficienttomarkthehouseevenhadMissHunternotbeenstandingsmilingonthedoor-step. 

           "Haveyoumanagedit?"askedHolmes. 

           Aloudthuddingnoisecamefromsomewheredownstairs. "ThatisMrs.Tollerinthecellar,"saidshe. "Herhusbandliessnoringonthekitchenrug. Herearehiskeys,whicharetheduplicatesofMr.Rucastle’s." 

           "Youhavedonewellindeed!"criedHolmeswithenthusiasm. "Nowleadtheway,andweshallsoonseetheendofthisblackbusiness." 

           Wepassedupthestair,unlockedthedoor,followedondownapassage,andfoundourselvesinfrontofthebarricadewhichMissHunterhaddescribed. Holmescutthecordandremovedthetransversebar.
