           "Well,itisveryingenious,"saidI,laughing; "butsince,asyousaidjustnow,therehasbeennocrimecommitted,andnoharmdonesavethelossofagoose,allthisseemstoberatherawasteofenergy." 

           SherlockHolmeshadopenedhismouthtoreply,whenthedoorflewopen,andPeterson,thecommissionaire,rushedintotheapartmentwithflushedcheeksandthefaceofamanwhoisdazedwithastonishment. 

           "Thegoose,Mr.Holmes!Thegoose,sir!"hegasped. 

           "Eh?Whatofit,then?Hasitreturnedtolifeandflappedoffthroughthekitchenwindow?" Holmestwistedhimselfrounduponthesofatogetafairerviewoftheman’sexcitedface.
