           “Well,Ididmind,”shesaid;“andIthoughtofsendingforyouthismorningtotheOceanHouse.Iamverygladyouarebetter,andIamcharmedyouhavearrived.Youmustcomeroundtotheothersideofthepiazza.”Andsheledtheway,withalight,smoothstep,lookingbackattheyoungmenandsmiling.Theothersideofthepiazzawas,asLordLambethpresentlyremarked,averyjollyplace.Itwasofthemostliberalproportions,andwithitsawnings,itsfancifulchairs,itscushionsandrugs,itsviewoftheocean,closeathand,tumblingalongthebaseofthelowcliffswhoseleveltopsintervenedinlawnlikesmoothness,itformedacharmingcomplementtothedrawingroom.Assuchitwasincourseofuseatthepresentmoment;itwasoccupiedbyasocialcircle.Therewereseveralladiesandtwoorthreegentlemen,towhomMrs.Westgateproceededtointroducethedistinguishedstrangers.Shementionedagreatmanynamesveryfreelyanddistinctly;theyoungEnglishmen,shufflingaboutandbowing,wereratherbewildered.Butatlasttheywereprovidedwithchairs—low,wickerchairs,gilded,andtiedwithagreatmanyribbons—andoneoftheladies(averyyoungperson,withalittlesnubnoseandseveraldimples)offeredPercyBeaumontafan.Thefanwasalsoadornedwithpinkloveknots;butPercyBeaumontdeclinedit,althoughhewasveryhot.Presently,however,itbecamecooler;thebreezefromtheseawasdelicious,theviewwascharming,andthepeoplesittingtherelookedexceedinglyfreshandcomfortable.
