           Afterawhilethescatteredfireworksceased.Alongerintervalofdarknessfollowed,andthenthewholenightbrokeintoflower.Fromeverypointofthehorizon,goldandsilverarchessprangupandcrossedeachother,sky-orchardsbrokeintoblossom,shedtheirflamingpetalsandhungtheirbrancheswithgoldenfruit;andallthewhiletheairwasfilledwithasoftsupernaturalhum,asthoughgreatbirdswerebuildingtheirnestsinthoseinvisibletree-tops.

           Nowandthentherecamealull,andawaveofmoonlightswepttheLake.Inaflashitrevealedhundredsofboats,steel-darkagainstlustrousripples;thenitwithdrewasifwithafurlingofvasttranslucentwings.Charity’sheartthrobbedwithdelight.Itwasasifallthelatentbeautyofthingshadbeenunveiledtoher.Shecouldnotimaginethattheworldheldanythingmorewonderful;butnearhersheheardsomeonesay,“Youwaittillyouseethesetpiece,”andinstantlyherhopestookafreshflight.
