           Thefifthsallywasintheafternoon;itwasfine,andsheremainedoutlong,walkingtotheverytopofthevalleyinwhichBlooms-Endlay.Shesawthewhitepalingabouthalfamileoff;buthedidnotappear.Itwasalmostwithheart-sicknessthatshecamehomeandwithasenseofshameatherweakness.SheresolvedtolookforthemanfromParisnomore.

           ButProvidenceisnothingifnotcoquettish;andnosoonerhadEustaciaformedthisresolvethantheopportunitycamewhich,whilesought,hadbeenentirelywithholden.
