Acoupleofthemensteppedoutandcarefullyrightedthecase.
“There!That’sbetter,”shesaid.“Freckles,I’msurprisedatyourbeingsocareless.Itwouldbeashametobreakthoselovelybutterfliesforoneoldtree!Isthatavaluabletree?Whydidn’tyoutelluslastnightyouweregoingtotakeoutatreethismorning?Oh,say,didyouputyourcasetheretoprotectthattreefromthatstealingoldBlackJackandhisgang?Ibetyoudid!Well,ifthatwasn’tbright!Whatkindofatreeisit?”
“It’sawhiteoak,”saidFreckles.
“Likethosetheymakedining-tablesandsideboardsfrom?”
“Yes.”
