SherlockHolmeshadlistenedwiththeutmostintentnesstothestatementoftheunhappyschoolmaster.Hisdrawnbrowsandthedeepfurrowbetweenthemshowedthatheneedednoexhortationtoconcentrateallhisattentionuponaproblemwhich,apartfromthetremendousinterestsinvolvedmustappealsodirectlytohisloveofthecomplexandtheunusual.Henowdrewouthisnotebookandjotteddownoneortwomemoranda.
