Thisboldsurmise,however,shesoonlearntcomprehendedbuthalfthefact.Theanxiousaffection,whichshewasaccusedofhavingcontinuallywatchedinIsabella’severylookandaction,had,inthecourseoftheiryesterday’sparty,receivedthedelightfulconfessionofanequallove.HerheartandfaithwerealikeengagedtoJames.NeverhadCatherinelistenedtoanythingsofullofinterest,wonder,andjoy.Herbrotherandherfriendengaged!Newtosuchcircumstances,theimportanceofitappearedunspeakablygreat,andshecontemplateditasoneofthosegrandevents,ofwhichtheordinarycourseoflifecanhardlyaffordareturn.Thestrengthofherfeelingsshecouldnotexpress;thenatureofthem,however,contentedherfriend.Thehappinessofhavingsuchasisterwastheirfirsteffusion,andthefairladiesmingledinembracesandtearsofjoy.
