Thebirdputhistinyheadononesideandlookedupathimwithhissoftbrighteyewhichwaslikeablackdewdrop.Heseemedquitefamiliarandnottheleastafraid.Hehoppedaboutandpeckedtheearthbriskly,lookingforseedsandinsects.ItactuallygaveMaryaqueerfeelinginherheart,becausehewassoprettyandcheerfulandseemedsolikeaperson.Hehadatinyplumpbodyandadelicatebeak,andslenderdelicatelegs.
“Willhealwayscomewhenyoucallhim?”sheaskedalmostinawhisper.
