           “WhenMaryfoundthisgardenitlookedquitedead,”theoratorproceeded.“Thensomethingbeganpushingthingsupoutofthesoilandmakingthingsoutofnothing.Onedaythingsweren’tthereandanothertheywere.Ihadneverwatchedthingsbeforeanditmademefeelverycurious.ScientificpeoplearealwayscuriousandIamgoingtobescientific.Ikeepsayingtomyself,‘Whatisit?Whatisit?’It’ssomething.Itcan’tbenothing!Idon’tknowitsnamesoIcallitMagic.IhaveneverseenthesunrisebutMaryandDickonhaveandfromwhattheytellmeIamsurethatisMagictoo.Somethingpushesitupanddrawsit.SometimessinceI’vebeeninthegardenI’velookedupthroughthetreesattheskyandIhavehadastrangefeelingofbeinghappyasifsomethingwerepushinganddrawinginmychestandmakingmebreathefast.Magicisalwayspushinganddrawingandmakingthingsoutofnothing.EverythingismadeoutofMagic,leavesandtrees,flowersandbirds,badgersandfoxesandsquirrelsandpeople.Soitmustbeallaroundus.Inthisgarden—inalltheplaces.TheMagicinthisgardenhasmademestandupandknowIamgoingtolivetobeaman.
