           “Whatisamoor?”shesaidsuddenlytoMrs.Medlock.

           “Lookoutofthewindowinabouttenminutesandyou’llsee,”thewomananswered.“We’vegottodrivefivemilesacrossMisselMoorbeforewegettotheManor.Youwon’tseemuchbecauseit’sadarknight,butyoucanseesomething.”

           Maryaskednomorequestionsbutwaitedinthedarknessofhercorner,keepinghereyesonthewindow.Thecarriagelampscastraysoflightalittledistanceaheadofthemandshecaughtglimpsesofthethingstheypassed.
