Andwhenthecradlestoppedtheshipmovedon;slowlyatfirst,thenwithamovementthatgrewquickeruntilitincreasedtothespeedofafast-trottinghorse,touchingthewaters,dippingintothem,cleavingthem,forcingthemasunderinwavesandripplesthatfledastonishedtothesurroundingshores;finallyrestingandfloatinguponthem,whilethousandsofthepigmymenwhohadroostedinthebareironbranches,whohadraisedthehideousclamouramidwhichthegiantwasborn,greetedtheirhandiwork,droppedtheirtools,andraisedtheirhoarsevoicesinacheer.
Themiraclehadhappened.Andthedaycamewhenthetwograyhorsesweresummonedtotheirgreatesttask;when,withnecksproudlyarchedandtheirwhitemanesflunghigherthanever,theyescortedtheTitanicbetweentheislandsouttosea.
