           Thesunstruckstraightuponthehouse,makingthewhitewallsglarebetweenthedarkwindows.Theirpanes,woventhicklywithgreenbranches,heldcirclesofimpenetrabledarkness.Sharp-edgedwedgesoflightlayuponthewindow-sillandshowedinsidetheroomplateswithbluerings,cupswithcurvedhandles,thebulgeofagreatbowl,thecrisscrosspatternintherug,andtheformidablecornersandlinesofcabinetsandbookcases.Behindtheirconglomerationhungazoneofshadowinwhichmightbeafurthershapetobedisencumberedofshadoworstilldenserdepthsofdarkness.

           Thewavesbrokeandspreadtheirwatersswiftlyovertheshore.Oneafteranothertheymassedthemselvesandfell;thespraytosseditselfbackwiththeenergyoftheirfall.Thewavesweresteepeddeep-bluesaveforapatternofdiamond-pointedlightontheirbackswhichrippledasthebacksofgreathorsesripplewithmusclesastheymove.Thewavesfell;withdrewandfellagain,likethethudofagreatbeaststamping.
