Itwasthatfly-leaf,takenfromtheBible,whichCorneliusdeWitthadsenttoDortbyCraeke,theservantofhisbrotherJohn,torequestVanBaerletoburnthecorrespondenceoftheGrandPensionarywiththeMarquisdeLouvois.
Thisrequest,asthereadermayremember,wascouchedinthefollowingterms:—
