           OldYacobwasgreatlydistressedtofindherinconsolable,and,besideswhatmadeitmoredistressinghelikedNunezformanythings. Sohewentandsatinthewindowlesscouncil-chamberwiththeothereldersandwatchedthetrendofthetalk,andsaid,atthepropertime, "He’sbetterthanhewas. Verylikely,someday,weshallfindhimassaneasourselves." 

           Thenafterwardsoneoftheelders,whothoughtdeeply,hadanidea. Hewasthegreatdoctoramongthesepeople,theirmedicine-man,andhehadaveryphilosophicalandinventivemind,andtheideaofcuringNunezofhispeculiaritiesappealedtohim. OnedaywhenYacobwaspresenthereturnedtothetopicofNunez.

           "ThatiswhatIhavealwayshoped,"saidoldYacob. 

           "Hisbrainisaffected,"saidtheblinddoctor. 

           Theeldersmurmuredassent. 

           "Now,whataffectsit?" 

           "Ah!"saidoldYacob. 

           "This,"saidthedoctor,answeringhisownquestion.
