Themotionofhisbody,too,wasatvariancewiththisidea—forherockedfromsidetosidewithagentleyetconstantanduniformsway. Havingrapidlytakennoticeofallthis,IresumedthenarrativeofSirLauncelot,whichthusproceeded:

Nosoonerhadthesesyllablespassedmylips,than—asifashieldofbrasshadindeed,atthemoment,fallenheavilyuponafloorofsilver—Ibecameawareofadistinct,hollow,metallic,andclangorous,yetapparentlymuffled,reverberation.
