           “Andnow,thechampion,havingescapedfromtheterriblefuryofthedragon,bethinkinghimselfofthebrazenshield,andofthebreakingupoftheenchantmentwhichwasuponit,removedthecarcassfromoutofthewaybeforehim,andapproachedvalorouslyoverthesilverpavementofthecastletowheretheshieldwasuponthewall; whichinsoothtarriednotforhisfullcoming,butfelldownathisfeetuponthesilverfloor,withamightygreatandterribleringingsound.” 

           Nosoonerhadthesesyllablespassedmylips,than—asifashieldofbrasshadindeed,atthemoment,fallenheavilyuponafloorofsilver—Ibecameawareofadistinct,hollow,metallic,andclangorous,yetapparentlymuffled,reverberation.
