           Dingoitself,risingonitspawsandpassingitsheadabovetherailing,seemedtowishtosaygood-bytothecrew.

           Thenallreturnedtotheprow,soastolosenoneoftheveryattractivemovementsofsuchafishing.

           Thewhale-boatputoff,and,undertheimpetusofitsfouroars,vigorouslyhandled,itbegantodistanceitselffromthe"Pilgrim."

           "Watchwell,Dick,watchwell!"criedCaptainHulltotheyoungnoviceforthelasttime.

           "Countonme,sir."

           "Oneeyefortheship,oneeyeforthewhale-boat,myboy.Donotforgetit."

           "Thatshallbedone,captain,"repliedDickSand,whowenttotakehisplacenearthehelm.

           Alreadythelightboatwasseveralhundredfeetfromtheship.CaptainHull,standingattheprow,nolongerabletomakehimselfheard,renewedhisinjunctionsbythemostexpressivegestures.
