           ThispartofthePacificwasalwaysdeserted.Novesselshoweditselfintheseparts.Itwasalatitudetrulyforsakenbynavigators.Thewhalersofthesouthernseaswerenotyetpreparedtogobeyondthetropic.Onthe"Pilgrim,"whichpeculiarcircumstanceshadobligedtoleavethefishinggroundsbeforetheendoftheseason,theymustnotexpecttocrossanyshipboundforthesamedestination.
