           “Andsothen,Isuppose,”saidMrsMusgrove,inalowvoice,asifthinkingaloud,“sothenhewentawaytotheLaconia,andtherehemetwithourpoorboy.Charles,mydear,”(beckoninghimtoher),“doaskCaptainWentworthwhereitwashefirstmetwithyourpoorbrother.Ialwaysforgot.”

           “ItwasatGibraltar,mother,Iknow.DickhadbeenleftillatGibraltar,witharecommendationfromhisformercaptaintoCaptainWentworth.”

           “Oh!but,Charles,tellCaptainWentworth,heneednotbeafraidofmentioningpoorDickbeforeme,foritwouldberatherapleasuretohearhimtalkedofbysuchagoodfriend.”

           Charles,beingsomewhatmoremindfuloftheprobabilitiesofthecase,onlynoddedinreply,andwalkedaway.
