Бременские музыканты

           Assoonasthefourminstrelshaddone,theyputoutthelight,andeachsoughtforhimselfasleeping-placeaccordingtohisnatureandtowhatsuitedhim. Thedonkeylaidhimselfdownuponsomestrawintheyard, thehoundbehindthedoor, thecatuponthehearthnearthewarmashes, andtheroosterperchedhimselfuponabeamoftheroof; andbeingtiredfromtheirlongwalk,theysoonwenttosleep. 

           Whenitwaspastmidnight,andtherobberssawfromafarthatthelightwasnolongerburningintheirhouse,andallappearedquiet,thecaptainsaid, "Weoughtnottohaveletourselvesbefrightenedoutofourwits;" andorderedoneofthemtogoandexaminethehouse. 

           Themessengerfindingallstill,wentintothekitchentolightacandle, and,takingtheglisteningfieryeyesofthecatforlivecoals, heheldamatchtothemtolightit. Butthecatdidnotunderstandthejoke,andflewinhisface,spittingandscratching. Hewasdreadfullyfrightened,andrantotheback-door,butthedog,wholaytheresprangupandbithisleg; andasheranacrosstheyardbythestraw-heap, thedonkeygavehimasmartkickwithitshindfoot.
