           Soonwewererunningthroughasuffusingwideveilofmist;neithershipnorboattobeseen.

           "Giveway,men,"whisperedStarbuck,drawingstillfurtheraftthesheetofhissail;"thereistimetokillafishyetbeforethesquallcomes.There’swhitewateragain!closeto!Spring!"

           Soonafter,twocriesinquicksuccessiononeachsideofusdenotedthattheotherboatshadgotfast;buthardlyweretheyoverheard,whenwithalightning-likehurtlingwhisperStarbucksaid:"Standup!"andQueequeg,harpooninhand,sprangtohisfeet.

           Thoughnotoneoftheoarsmenwasthenfacingthelifeanddeathperilsoclosetothemahead,yetwiththeireyesontheintensecountenanceofthemateinthesternoftheboat,theyknewthattheimminentinstanthadcome;theyheard,too,anenormouswallowingsoundasoffiftyelephantsstirringintheirlitter.Meanwhiletheboatwasstillboomingthroughthemist,thewavescurlingandhissingaroundusliketheerectedcrestsofenragedserpents.

           "That’shishump.There,there,giveittohim!"whisperedStarbuck.

           Ashortrushingsoundleapedoutoftheboat;itwasthedartedironofQueequeg.
