Perhapsthemostleeringlyblood-congealinglegendsarethosewhichrelatetocertainperverseproductsofdecadentpriestcraft —compositemummiesmadebytheartificialunionofhumantrunksandlimbswiththeheadsofanimalsinimitationoftheeldergods. Atallstagesofhistorythesacredanimalsweremummified,sothatconsecratedbulls,cats,ibises,crocodilesandthelikemightreturnsomedaytogreaterglory. Butonlyinthedecadencedidtheymixthehumanandtheanimalinthesamemummy—onlyinthedecadence,whentheydidnotunderstandtherightsandprerogativesofthekaandthesoul.
Whathappenedtothosecompositemummiesisnottoldof —atleastpublicly—anditiscertainthatnoEgyptologisteverfoundone. ThewhispersofArabsareverywild,andcannotbereliedupon.
