Thefirstfewmonthswereveryhappyones,andBethoftenusedtolookround,andsay"Howbeautifulthisis!"astheyallsattogetherinhersunnyroom,thebabieskickingandcrowingonthefloor,motherandsistersworkingnear,andfatherreading,inhispleasantvoice,fromthewiseoldbookswhichseemedrichingoodandcomfortablewords,asapplicablenowaswhenwrittencenturiesago,alittlechapel,whereapaternalpriesttaughthisflockthehardlessonsallmustlearn,tryingtoshowthemthathopecancomfortlove,andfaithmakeresignationpossible.
