Ifeltangryatfirst,andthenIdidn’tcare,foragovernessisasgoodasaclerk,andI’vegotsense,ifIhaven’tstyle,whichismorethansomepeoplehave,judgingfromtheremarksoftheelegantbeingswhoclatteredaway,smokinglikebadchimneys.Ihateordinarypeople!

Yesterdaywasaquietdayspentinteaching,sewing,andwritinginmylittleroom,whichisverycozy,withalightandfire.IpickedupafewbitsofnewsandwasintroducedtotheProfessor.ItseemsthatTinaisthechildoftheFrenchwomanwhodoesthefineironinginthelaundryhere.ThelittlethinghaslostherhearttoMr.Bhaer,andfollowshimaboutthehouselikeadogwheneverheisathome,whichdelightshim,asheisveryfondofchildren,thougha‘bacheldore’.KittyandMinnieKirkelikewiseregardhimwithaffection,andtellallsortsofstoriesabouttheplaysheinvents,thepresentshebrings,andthesplendidtaleshetells.
