Itmightbe,too—doubtlessitwasso,althoughshehidthesecretfromherself,andgrewpalewheneveritstruggledoutofherheart,likeaserpentfromitshole—itmightbethatanotherfeelingkeptherwithinthesceneandpathwaythathadbeensofatal.Theredwelt,theretrode,thefeetofonewithwhomshedeemedherselfconnectedinaunionthat,unrecognisedonearth,wouldbringthemtogetherbeforethebaroffinaljudgment,andmakethattheirmarriage-altar,forajointfuturityofendlessretribution.
