           ‘ThenIhopeyourfingerisbetternow?’Alicesaidverypolitely,asshecrossedthelittlebrookaftertheQueen.

           

           ‘Oh,muchbetter!’criedtheQueen,hervoicerisingtoasqueakasshewenton.‘Muchbe-etter!Be-etter!Be-e-e-etter!Be-e-ehh!’Thelastwordendedinalongbleat,solikeasheepthatAlicequitestarted.

           ShelookedattheQueen,whoseemedtohavesuddenlywrappedherselfupinwool.Alicerubbedhereyes,andlookedagain.Shecouldn’tmakeoutwhathadhappenedatall.Wassheinashop?Andwasthatreallywasitreallyasheepthatwassittingontheothersideofthecounter?Rubasshecould,shecouldmakenothingmoreofit:shewasinalittledarkshop,leaningwithherelbowsonthecounter,andoppositetoherwasanoldSheep,sittinginanarm-chairknitting,andeverynowandthenleavingofftolookatherthroughagreatpairofspectacles.
