           TheKingreceivedhimwithgreatkindness,andasthefineclotheshehadgivenhimextremelysetoffhisgoodmien(forhewaswellmade,andveryhandsomeinhisperson),theKing’sdaughtertookasecretinclinationtohim, andtheMarquisofCarabashadnosoonercasttwoorthreerespectfulandsomewhattenderglances,butshefellinlovewithhimtodistraction. TheKingwouldneedshavehimcomeintohiscoach,andtakepartoftheairing. TheCat,quiteoverjoyedtoseehisprojectbegintosucceed,marchedonbefore, andmeetingwithsomecountrymen,whoweremowingameadow,hesaidtothem: 

           "Goodpeople,youwhoaremowing,ifyoudonottelltheKing,thatthemeadowyoumowbelongstomylordMarquisofCarabas,youshallbechoppedassmallasmince-meat." 

           TheKingdidnotfailaskingofthemowers,towhomthemeadowtheyweremowingbelonged. 

           "TomylordMarquisofCarabas,"answeredtheyalltogether;fortheCat’sthreatshadmadethemterriblyafraid. 

           "Trulyafineestate,"saidtheKingtotheMarquisofCarabas. 

           "Yousee,sir,"saidtheMarquis,"thisisameadowwhichneverfailstoyieldaplentifulharvesteveryyear." 

           TheMasterCat,whostillwentonbefore,metwithsomereapers,andsaidtothem: 

           "Goodpeople,youwhoarereaping,ifyoudonottelltheKingthatallthiscornbelongstotheMarquisofCarabas,youshallbechoppedassmallasmince-meat." 

           TheKing,whopassedbyamomentafter,wouldneedsknowtowhomallthatcorn,whichhethensaw,didbelong.
