           Itwasperhapsinmakinghissalutetoherthatheloosenedhisholdonthemonkey.Hewasanimpishmonkeyandalwaysreadyforadventure,anditisprobablethatthesightofalittlegirlexcitedhim.Hesuddenlybrokeloose,jumpedontotheslates,ranacrossthemchattering,andactuallyleapedontoSara’sshoulder,andfromtheredownintoheratticroom.Itmadeherlaughanddelightedher;butsheknewhemustberestoredtohismasteriftheLascarwashismasterandshewonderedhowthiswastobedone.Wouldhelethercatchhim,orwouldhebenaughtyandrefusetobecaught,andperhapsgetawayandrunoffovertheroofsandbelost?Thatwouldnotdoatall.PerhapshebelongedtotheIndiangentleman,andthepoormanwasfondofhim.
