“Outsidethefrontdoor.Theyarecuttingoutthelock.WhenIgivetheword,notbefore,falluponhimfrombehindandholdhimfast.Becareful,hewillhaveaknife.”
Presentlytherewasarendingsound,andalittlecircleoflightappearedthroughthedoor.Itwasextinguishedimmediatelyandthenthedoorwasslowlyopened.PoirotandIflattenedourselvesagainstthewall.Iheardaman’sbreathingashepassedus.Thenheflashedonhistorch,andashedidso,Poirothissedinmyear:
“Allez.”
Wesprangtogether,Poirotwithaquickmovementenvelopedtheintruder’sheadwithalightwoollenscarfwhilstIpinionedhisarms.Thewholeaffairwasquickandnoiseless.
