           Gregor’swishtoseehismotherwassoonrealised.Outofconsiderationforhisparents,Gregorwantedtoavoidbeingseenatthewindowduringtheday,thefewsquaremetersofthefloordidnotgivehimmuchroomtocrawlabout,itwashardtojustliequietlythroughthenight,hisfoodsoonstoppedgivinghimanypleasureatall,andso,toentertainhimself,hegotintothehabitofcrawlingupanddownthewallsandceiling.Hewasespeciallyfondofhangingfromtheceiling;itwasquitedifferentfromlyingonthefloor;hecouldbreathemorefreely;hisbodyhadalightswingtoit;andupthere,relaxedandalmosthappy,itmighthappenthathewouldsurpriseevenhimselfbylettinggooftheceilingandlandingonthefloorwithacrash.Butnow,ofcourse,hehadfarbettercontrolofhisbodythanbeforeand,evenwithafallasgreatasthat,causedhimselfnodamage.
