Nowofallthesespiritualpainsbyfarthegreatestisthepainofloss,sogreat,infact,thatinitselfitisatormentgreaterthanalltheothers.SaintThomas,thegreatestdoctorofthechurch,theangelicdoctor,asheiscalled,saysthattheworstdamnationconsistsinthis,thattheunderstandingofmanistotallydeprivedofdivinelightandhisaffectionobstinatelyturnedawayfromthegoodnessofGod.
