ButsofartheyoungEnglishmanhadbeenabletokeepthosehorriblefangsfromhisjugularandnow,astheyfoughtlessfiercelyforamoment,toregaintheirbreath,Tarzanformedacunningplan.Hewouldworkhiswaytotheother’sbackand,clingingtherewithtoothandnail,drivehisknifehomeuntilTerkozwasnomore.
Themaneuverwasaccomplishedmoreeasilythanhehadhoped,forthestupidbeast,notknowingwhatTarzanwasattempting,madenoparticularefforttopreventtheaccomplishmentofthedesign.
Butwhen,finally,herealizedthathisantagonistwasfastenedtohimwherehisteethandfistsalikewereuselessagainsthim,TerkozhurledhimselfaboutuponthegroundsoviolentlythatTarzancouldbutclingdesperatelytotheleaping,turning,twistingbody,anderehehadstruckablowtheknifewashurledfromhishandbyaheavyimpactagainsttheearth,andTarzanfoundhimselfdefenseless.
Duringtherollingsandsquirmingsofthenextfewminutes,Tarzan’sholdwasloosenedadozentimesuntilfinallyanaccidentalcircumstanceofthoseswiftandeverchangingevolutionsgavehimanewholdwithhisrighthand,whichherealizedwasabsolutelyunassailable.
