Duringluncheon—whichwasexcellent,ofcourse,aseverythingatToadHallalwayswas—theToadsimplylethimselfgo.DisregardingtheRat,heproceededtoplayupontheinexperiencedMoleasonaharp.Naturallyavolubleanimal,andalwaysmasteredbyhisimagination,hepaintedtheprospectsofthetripandthejoysoftheopenlifeandtheroadsideinsuchglowingcoloursthattheMolecouldhardlysitinhischairforexcitement.Somehow,itsoonseemedtakenforgrantedbyallthreeofthemthatthetripwasasettledthing;andtheRat,thoughstillunconvincedinhismind,allowedhisgood-naturetoover-ridehispersonalobjections.Hecouldnotbeartodisappointhistwofriends,whowerealreadydeepinschemesandanticipations,planningouteachday’sseparateoccupationforseveralweeksahead.
Whentheywerequiteready,thenowtriumphantToadledhiscompanionstothepaddockandsetthemtocapturetheoldgreyhorse,who,withouthavingbeenconsulted,andtohisownextremeannoyance,hadbeentoldoffbyToadforthedustiestjobinthisdustyexpedition.
